    Hearing Loss Association of America, California State Association, Inc. (HLAA-CA) serves Californians with hearing loss. Five million Californians, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, children, friends, and colleagues have hearing loss. Some of us are Deaf. We use sign language. Some of us are late deafened and hard of hearing. We use captions. Hearing loss can be a very devastating disorder. It can be very frightening, depressing, and isolating. 60% of veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan have hearing loss and tinnitus. 2-3 out of every 1,000 children are hard of hearing or deaf. The numbers are increasing. 65% of people with hearing loss are younger than age 65. Turn the volume down! Hearing aids are very helpful, but unlike glasses, you don't get 20/20 hearing. Hearing loops help! Many of us cannot hear the high frequencies sound of alerting devices. We need low frequency sound, vibration, strobe, or a hearing dog to nudge us.     We advocate for communication access throughout California for the benefit of Californians with hearing loss. We provide information and education about hearing loss and hearing loss services via our newsletter, website, Facebook page, and state conferences to Californians with hearing loss, their friends, families, and professionals. We support HLAA California chapters. We promote empowerment of individuals with hearing loss.

    HLAA-CA is run entirely by dedicated, tireless volunteers.
