• History of The Hearing Loss Californian Newsletter

The Hearing Loss Californian newsletter is HLAA-CA’s free quarterly newsletter, available in both digital and print versions. The newsletter covers hearing loss issues and the hearing loss community in California.

In early 1991, Don Senger founded the HLAA-CA state newsletter. Don Senger served as editor from 1991 to the spring of 2000.

Caroline Martin served as editor for summer and fall of 2000.

Grace Tiessen then became editor starting winter of 2000 and has been serving as editor since then.

The newsletter was named SHHH Californian in 1991. Self Help for Hard of Hearing People, Inc. (SHHH) was the former name of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA). In the summer of 2000, the newsletter was renamed to The SHHH Californian. In the spring of 2001, the newsletter was renamed to The Hearing Loss Californian, when SHHH was renamed to Hearing Loss Association of America.

The Hearing Loss Californian won the HLAA Best Newsletter Award in 2002.
