Jim Montgomery has been keenly involved with HLAA-CA for more than 25 years, since its founding in the late 1980s, and he continues to be. Jim was an early member of HLAA-CA (then called SHHH-BAM / Bay Area Members). Jim was appointed and served as Deputy Northern California Chapter Coordinator from 1989 to 1992, and he was appointed and served as Northern California Chapter Coordinator from 1993 to 1996. He chaired or co-chaired four HLAA-CA state conventions. Jim served on the HLAA-CA board of trustees from 1997 to March 2016. From 1997 to 1998 as well as from 2011 to 2014, Jim served as president of the HLAA-CA board.
In addition to his many years of service for HLAA-CA, Jim co-founded the HLAA Diablo Valley Chapter in Walnut Creek in 1984, and he served as board member, officer, and president multiple times. Furthermore, Jim was photographer of the HLAA national conventions twenty times. He served as a national convention volunteer starting from the earliest HLAA conventions. Jim received the Spirit of SHHH (Self Help for Hard-of-Hearing People, the initial name of HLAA) Award in 1989. Jim also received the HLAA Keystone Award.
We have many volunteers and leaders who have dedicated a tremendous amount to HLAA-CA and hearing loss causes and who have contributed many selfless hours to the organization. In honor of the 35th anniversary of HLAA, we would like to thank Jim for his efforts and dedication to HLAA, HLAA-CA, and the HLAA-CA board.
